The most important measure of inflation has increased for three months running, according to the Statistical Center of Iran. The inflation rate as of the Persian month ending May 21 was 39.3 percent compared to the same month in the previous year. That was up from 35.6 percent in the previous month and 34.7 percent two months previously. That rise suggested a potentially feverish return of inflation.
By the other method of measuring inflation used by the Statistical Center, inflation had fallen for eight straight months and stood at 38.7 percent in the month ending May 21. However, as can be seen in the chart, the comparison with the same month in the previous year (shown in the black bars) anticipates where the other measure (shown in the red bars) will move in another few months.
