Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani met last week with Australia’s ambassador in Tehran, Paul Foley. The state news agency said Larijani called for enhanced relations between the two countries. This rang a little hollow since Iran was the only invited country that refused to attend a meeting in Indonesia last month to deal with the issue of boat people—one-third of them Iranians—that Australia wants to stop sailing to Australia.
