PressTV did not give its source and the Iran Times was unable to find any other news outlet reporting any such explosion. The Saudi government later said there had been no explosion in the city but had been a minor fire at a nearby refinery. This all begged the question as to how PressTV alone heard of an explosion in a city that has seen a number of anti-regime protests by Saudi Shias.
