A clergyman who holds a professorship at the University of Tehran, Valiollah Naghipurfar (photo), was interviewed recently on state television. He was asked if it was true that jinns, the genies that some people in the Islamic world believe in, could be used to gather intelligence. The cleric nodded in agreement and then added, “The Jew is very practiced in sorcery. Indeed, most sorcerers are Jews.” Naghipurfar then described how the Zionists send jinns on missions to undermine the Islamic Republic. Few in Iran believe such tales, but the surprise was that state television gave Naghipurfar a platform to propound such ideas.
