William Hague (photo) met last Thursday with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi while both men were visiting Kabul. Iran-British relations have been virtually non-existent since last November when the Iranian regime allowed a mob to overrun the British embassy. Iran was stunned when Britain responded by pulling all its diplomats out of Tehran and booted all Iranian diplomats out of Britain. Britain said the meeting was requested by Salehi—which was not reported in Iran—and the agenda included Syria, the nuclear issue, and how to handle consular issues for Iranians living in Britain who now have no consular services. Nothing was resolved, not even consular services.
