George Galloway (photo) was a former Labor Party member who formed his own Respect Party several years ago after being expelled from Labor. Galloway works for PressTV, the English language arm of Iranian state broadcasting. Galloway won in Bradford, a city known for its huge Muslim population. He defeated Imran Hossein, the Labor party candidate. Galloway made opposition to the war in Afghanistan the center of his campaign. British voters often pick candidates out of the mainstream at such by-elections to fill vacancies, then return to the mainstream at the next general election.
