Last July 20, Nour Ahmad Nikbakht, an Iranian diplomat in Yemen, headed to the embassy in his car, was forced off the road and kidnaped by gunmen. The kidnapers have said nothing since then and it isn’t known why he was targeted. On Sunday, a Japanese diplomat was accosted by men who tried to drag him away, but he fought them and suffered several stab wounds before they fled—in the diplomat’s car. The Iranian government says it doesn’t know who kidnaped its diplomat or where he is being held and has heard nothing from his adductors, but knows that he is in good health. It doesn’t say how it can know that.
