After almost two years of silence, the Expediency Council has taken up consideration of two international conventions for combatting money laundering. They are conventions the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has said Iran must join if it is to get off FATF’s blacklist, which locks Iran out of much of the global financial system. The Expediency Council last addressed them in April 2021, then put them aside, and took them up again in December. But it still has not acted on them.
