A fast supply vessel bringing supplies to an Iranian production platform in the South Pars gasfield was going considerably too fast September 1 as it sailed right into the scaffolding of the platform. Astoundingly, it did no damage to the platform, but the part of the scaffold the ship hit had the effect of slicing the craft like a loaf of bread. The scaffolding sliced away almost half the length of the supply ship, leaving it with the look more of a shark than a ship. Fortunately, the damage was all above the waterline so the ship didn’t sink. But it isn’t likely to go back in service any time soon.
