On the evening of May 18, an Iranian Kurdish asylum seeker, Behzad Mahmudi, 25, set himself on fire in front of the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Erbil, northern Iraq. His protest was mainly about the organization’s lack of attention to issues such as asylum seekers’ livelihoods and unemployment, and the lack of financial assistance. Behzad is still alive and is now in a hospital.
