Female bodybuilding has never been a popular activity in the Islamic Republic, where no woman could display her accomplishments in that area and competitions are barred. But there are some who are interested. Soubadeh Sabour, a bodybuilding instructor, says bodybuilding is now “taking off.” In an article for France 24, she says she has 150 students now. But she acknowledges that “only five or six of them really want to achieve a professional body-builder’s body definition; the others want to stop when they get just a little muscle.”
