President Ahmadi-nejad has called for the revival of traditional medications like herbal medicine.
“The Zionist and Western capital holders have changed all human and cultural concepts in the world so broadly that medical treatment is considered nothing but a business in the world today,” Ahmadi-nejad said in a meeting with the World Health Organization (WHO) regional director, Hassan Abdolrazzaq Jazzayeri, in Tehran last Tuesday.
The Fars news agency said he spoke of the high potential of natural herbs for curing disease and treating people, and said, “We should try to revive our own traditional medicine.”
“Our traditional medicine is in harmony with our culture and is naturally cheaper and more useful. Otherwise, we will have to import more drugs and medicines in the future,” Ahmadi-nejad said. He spoke just days after Iranian officials had boasted that Iran was now producing 97 percent of the medicines used in the country.
Fars said the diversity in Iran’s geography allows the country to host more than 7,500 species of plants, around 1,800 of which are used in medicine. Many of Iran’s most useful herbs are found nowhere else in the world, Fars said.
