Iranian physician Ali Malek-Hosseini has won the 2020 professional award of The Transplantation Society (TTS), a Montreal-based organization of physicians who deal in all kinds of organ transplants.
Malek-Hosseini runs the Shiraz Abu Ali Sina Transplant Center, the largest organ transplant center in the world in terms of the number of transplants conducted annually.
The center set a new world record in 2017 with 638 liver transplants, 93 percent of which were from brain dead donors.
Over the past years, Malek-Hosseini’s efforts have been recognized with several national and international awards. In January 2020, he was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons.
