Masud Karbasian, who was fired by the Majlis last August from his post as economy minister, has been hired to be the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC). This has prompted some head scratching. The job opened up when Ali Kardor was removed as NIOC managing director because of the new law banning the hiring of those passed the retirement age of 60. Kardor is 64. But his replacement, Karbasian, is 67.
