Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, the commander of the Iranian Navy, told a gathering of foreign military attaches in Tehran Sunday, “The Iranian Navy will definitely be present in the Atlantic Ocean in the near future.” It was back in July 2011, more than three years ago, that the Navy first announced plans to sail into the Atlantic Ocean “soon.” In fact, in that announcement, it said it would sail ships up and down the US East Coast. No Iranian warship has yet come anywhere near the Atlantic Ocean, yet alone the US East Coast.
