President Rohani proclaimed falsely that the United States is unable to kill the nuclear agreement. “The Americans have made several attempts to destroy the JCPOA, but they have failed to this very day, and I believe they will not be able to do so,” he said last Tuesday. Actually, President Trump can destroy the agreement simply by failing to renew the waivers required every 120 days to prevent US sanctions from going back into effect. He has signed the waivers twice and must sign them again in mid-January. Everyone expects him to do so because his opposition to the agreement is more vocal than real. But for Rohani to say he cannot kill the agreement is divorced from reality.
