The United States reviewed its travel warning for Iran, as it does every six months, and reissued the warning with no changes last Thursday. The travel warning contains a strong warning for dual nationals to think twice before visiting Iran, saying, “Since 2009, Iranian authorities have prevented the departure, in some cases for several months, of a number of Iranian-American citizens.” It pointed out that Iran does not recognize dual citizenship and considers all such people to be Iranians only, denying visits by US representatives to any dual nationals detained. It added that Iran has often denied access even to US citizens with no dual nationality, despite international law mandating such visits.
