President Obama (photo) last week lifted US economic sanctions against Myanmar and welcomed it back into the family of nations. The lifting had been discussed for more than a year since Myanmar held democratic elections, but the lifting was delayed in part because of state bias against the Rohingya, a minority Muslim ethnic group. The US has not been able to convince Myanmar to treat the Rohingya better, largely because the people of Myanmar are very strongly biased against the Rohingya.
