overnight last week after “severe” cardiovascular problems, his aides reported.
Musavi, who has been under house arrest for more than a year and a half, underwent several cardiac tests in a Tehran hospital on Thursday before being sent home the following day. He also underwent angioplasty – a procedure to clean and widen constricted arteries – while in the hospital, according to reformist website Kaleme.
One of his aides said he had been feeling unwell before the government took him to the hospital. “He has not been feeling well since [Wednesday] night, but the security forces did not take him to the hospital until this [Thursday] morning because they wanted to install cameras there,” Ardeshir-Amir Arjomand told Reuters news agency from Paris, where he is based.
Reformist leaders also complained that no one, including his doctor, was allowed to visit Musavi in the hospital. “He should be under the supervision of his family’s trusted doctor. It is not right to take someone to a place he does not trust,” Ali Shakuri-rad was quoted as saying by Kaleme.
Arjomand also held the Supreme Leader responsible for Musavi’s deteriorating health condition. “In the beginning [of the house arrest], Mir-Hossain Musavi was in very good health. If anything happens to Mir-Hossain Musavi, Mr. Kha-menehi, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, will be held directly responsible.”
