The Mehr news agency said the escapees had spent a long time digging a tunnel with spoons that was 30 meters (100 feet) long. A seventh prisoner who wanted to join the escape couldn’t because he was too fat for the tunnel. One of the escapees is a convicted murderer; the others are armed robbers.
