“Hollywood has played a significant role in fulfilling the military and imperialist objectives of the US since the Vietnam War and the Cold War in different parts of the world,” Hossaini was quoted by Mehr News Agency as saying.
He made no effort to address the large volume of anti-war and especially anti-Vietnam War flicks that have poured out of Hollywood.
The minister made his attack on Hollywood at the inauguration ceremony for the new Persian Gulf Cultural and Artistic Complex on Qeshm Island.
“Hundreds of movies have been made by Hollywood to justify the military presence of the United States in other countries,” Hossaini said, without citing any films by name. “That indicates the utilization of cultural and artistic instruments for the justification and glorification of Washington’s military aims.” He said Hollywood depicts itself as an advocate of human rights, but this huge institution actually operates to fulfill the evil objectives of the US government.
Hossaini said Iran should draw from its enormous capacity in culture and art—movies in particular—to build on its sacred and divine objectives and principles. “We should utilize this high [cultural] capacity to familiarize other countries with our culture so that Iran becomes a model and inspiration for the world.”
He said that is already happening. The proof of that, he said, is that the uprisings now going on throughout the Arab world were inspired by and are based on Iran’s 1979 Islamic revolution.
