The English-language novel “Eileen,” by Iranian-American author Ottessa Moshfegh, has been adapted for a Hollywood film, starring Anne Hathaway and Thomasin McKenzie.
The production of the movie is now underway in New Jersey, and is being directed by William Oldroyd, CinemaExpress reported.
The film tells the story of a young woman who works at a juvenile correctional facility for boys and cares for her abusive, alcoholic father. She becomes involved in an unexpected plunge into a crime, surpassing even her wildest imagination.
Moshfegh was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1981 to a Croatian mother and an Iranian father.
Her debut novel, “Eileen” (2015), won the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, and was a fiction finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.
