Iran’s freestyle national wrestling team won the 2016 World Cup in Los Angeles this week for the fifth year in a row.
Iran beat the Russian team in the finals to take first place. Georgia won the bronze.
The primary event on the wrestling calendar each year is the World Championships, supplanted by the Olympics every fourth year. The top eight teams in each year’s World Championships are then invited to the next year’s World Cup.
Russia has won eight of the last nine World Championships in freestyle, but has been tripped up most years by Iran in the World Cup.
