Oil Minister Masud Mir-Kazemi says a major gasfield has been discovered in southern Iran that has $50 billion worth of extractable gas at current prices. The field, named Khayyam, has been discovered onshore to the east of Assaluyeh. He said the capacity of the field has been estimated at 260 billion cubic meters of which 80 percent can be extracted under current technology.
