In a surprising decision, the Iranian Supreme Court has put on hold the death sentences handed down to three men for their roles in the November 2019 protests over the tripling of gasoline prices. The Court ordered new trials for the trio—Amir-Hossain Moradi, Mohammad Rajabi and Saeed Tamjidi. The Supreme Court had earlier upheld their sentences so the reversal was a surprise. They were convicted of rioting, but not causing the death of anyone.
