Haddadi’s long-term plans remain unknown.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is in a prolonged labor dispute. The players have been locked out by the team owners, so Haddadi cannot sign another contract at this point with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he has played for three seasons and has an option for a fourth season.
Haddadi is known to be unhappy with his limited playing time in Memphis. He negotiated this summer with the Foshan Dralions of the Chinese league and was said to be talking to Mahram, a team based in Tehran.
But Mehr said he had signed a “short-term” contract with Melli Haffari, the Ahvaz team in the Iranian basketball league.
Mehr specified the contract was short-term, but did not say how short.
Mehr said Haddadi intended to return to Memphis on December 6 for a Grizzlies training session. That meant he has not cut himself off from the Grizzlies or decided against returning to the team.
However, if the labor dispute isn’t settled, there will be no training session in December. In fact, there is talk that the entire season may be canceled. The first two weeks have already been canceled.
