Last week, we reported that the Trade Ministry had just approved the proposals of 13 foreign firms to invest in Iran—the first investments since the nuclear deal was reached. No sooner had that announcement been made than Trade Minister Mohammad-Reza Nematzadeh (photo) told an audience, “There have been 100 cases of foreign investment in Iran since the JCPOA.” Maybe the minister should read his own ministry’s press releases. (This tells you a lot about how officials use statistics in Iran.)
