Reza Khandan (photo), the husband of oft-imprisoned human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh, has been ordered to prison to serve a five-year sentence issued in 2019. The summons was sent only days after his wife gave an interview to CNN in which she said Iran’s protesters want regime change.
Sotoudeh herself has been on a medical furlough for almost two years, but can be ordered back to prison at any time. The order to Khandan suggests the regime is afraid that taking action against Sotoudeh might prompt more protests.
The couple has an adult daughter and a teenage son.
