Iran has recorded a huge growth in exports of engineering and technical services. Deputy Trade Minister Alireza Peymanpak said April 18 that engineering services exports from Iran reached a total of $2.3 billion last Persian year, an increase of 4.5-fold compared to the previous year.
Peymanpak said the trade ministry has set up a special department to help better market the services of Iranian engineering firms in other countries.
He said Iran eyes to meet a target of $20 billion in exports of engineering and technical services within the next four years, a very challenging goal.
Iran has relied more on non-oil export revenues in recent years to offset the impact of American sanctions on its crude sales.
Figures from the Iranian customs office show that non-oil exports topped $48 billion last year, an increase of 40 percent year-on-year.
Peymanpak, who also serves as the head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization, said exports of petrochemicals and food accounted for the bulk of the growth reported in non-oil exports last year.
The official said exports to some countries had increased significantly, including to Turkey where shipments from Iran had risen by 140 percent.
