The two lived in adjoining apartments in Limassol.
According to police the two had had an argument over the victim’s teenage son.
Immediately after the shooting, the 74-year-old Cypriot man locked himself in his apartment, but later gave himself up to police.
According to reports, the argument erupted when the elderly Cypriot reprimanded the Iranian’s 14-year-old son when he saw the youth stomping on his air conditioning compressor.
The teen then told his father what had happened and the father had an argument with the Cypriot, who was on his balcony at the time.
The Iranian man then made his way to the first floor where the suspect’s apartment was located.
He was met by the pensioner wielding a shotgun. The elderly Cypriot then allegedly shot the Iranian in the face and closed himself in his apartment.
Limassol police director Andreas Koushioumis said there was a witness statement confirming the events. Once the police arrived, the Cypriot handed over the gun and surrendered.
The victim’s wife, 14-year-old and their 4-year-old child were in their own apartment at the time.
