Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Mohammad Khazaee, said last week that Israel ought to be “compelled” to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. He said nothing about “compelling” Pakistan, India or North Korea—which are also not inside the treaty—to sign on. He also did not explain how he concluded that a sovereign nation could be “compelled” to sign any treaty when the Islamic Republic has exercised its rights as a sovereign nation in refusing to sign a number of treaties.
