An agreement with China to allow Iranian prisoners in Chinese jails to serve their sentences in Iran (and vice versa) has taken effect and China sent Askar Jalalian back to Iran April 24. Jalalian had spent 18 years in a Chinese prison, where, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said, he had lost both of his kidneys. The Foreign Ministry didn’t say what Jalalian’s crime was or how much time he would serve in an Iranian prison. Nor did it say how he was still alive after losing both kidneys. Presumably, he had a kidney transplant in China, but the Foreign ministry didn’t say that.
