Iranians are the second biggest bread-eaters in the world after Turks and consume six times the global average, the daily Donya-e Eqtesad reports. Iranians on average consume 160 kilos of bread (353 pounds) a year, or almost a pound a day. Turks are the world record holders at 199 kilos a year, or a quarter more than Iranians. By comparison, the Germans eat 70 kilos and the French 56 kilos on average each year, or less than half what Iranians consume, the newspaper reported. However, the Guinness Book of Records says that as of 2000 Serbs and Montenegrins were second to Turks in bread consumption with 135 kilos a year.
