The prime minister of the Caribbean island state of Antigua & Barbuda has named an Iranian-American, Badi Badiozamani (photo), to lead Antigua’s new program of citizenship for investors. This a program several countries have started in which they in essence sell citizenship to wealthy people who bring large sums into their borders. The citizenship measure is seen by most countries as a form of tax dodging. Antigua’s announcement did not make clear why it had chosen Badiozamani for this program, but it naturally spurred speculation that Antigua hoped to attract wealthy Iranians. In 2003, Badiozamani ran for governor of California, but did not do well against Arnold Schwarzenegger.
