Rep. Michele Bachmann, Republican of Minnesota, charged last week that President Obama wants Iran to develop a nuclear bomb.
Bachmann offered no evidence for her claim, which is contrary to everything Obama has said for seven years.
Bachmann first bashed Wendy Sherman, the under secretary of state who is the chief US negotiator with Iran. Bachmann asserted that Sherman’s “goal is to make sure that Iran has full ability to continue to enrich uranium and continue to stockpile it; they will have the full ability to create a nuclear bomb.”
Bachmann herself bombed out as a candidate in the GOP presidential primaries last year and then was barely re-elected in her congressional district last fall. She has announced she will not run for re-election next year and will cease to be a member of Congress at the end of 2014.
Speaking on “The Lars Larson Show,” Bachmann said, “For some unknown reason the Obama Administration wants the last country in the world that should have a nuclear bomb to get one.
“Call your member of Congress. Tell them, ‘I want you to stop President Obama from giving the ability to have a nuclear bomb to Iran and that’s the bottom line of what’s happening here’.”
She said, “It is treasonous and I think that’s why you hear more and more people calling for the impeachment of the President of the United States.”
Bachmann also blamed Obama for North Korea developing nuclear weapons. North Korea first exploded a nuclear device in October 2006 when President George W. Bush was still in office.
“Why do they want to allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon, just like they did with North Korea?” Bachmann asked. “The Obama Administration and Wendy Sherman in particular will have to answer that. I can’t. I don’t understand them. I don’t understand the thoughts and intentions of their heart.”
