In the latest anti-regime protest, a band of angry people in Khuzestan province has torn down a billboard honoring seven local Pasdaran who died fighting in Syria.
The sign was posted above a highway in Andimeshk, a city of 150,000 at the northern end of Khuzestan province.
Videos posted on social media showed the crowd toppling the sign and cheering as it hit the ground with those posting the videos saying the protesters objected to Iran fighting in Syria.
The state news agency reported an attack on a sign in Andimeshk, but said the protesters objected that the sign was installed by the rival city of Dezful and was an effort by Dezful to extend its jurisdiction. It said the sign showed Dezful’s claim for the border between the two rival cities—but the photo showed it did not.
