The Majlis said that 100 deputies signed the motion, enough to call in the president, but that 12 lawmakers later withdrew their signatures. Under Majlis rules, deputies may submit a resignation, but it must be approved by the legislature. It is not uncommon for deputies to file resignations to make a point, but for the resignation then to be rejected.
