Shohreh Aghdashloo has been named to a major film role in “The Septembers of Shiraz,” the story of a Jewish family caught up in the 1979 revolution.
The film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Dalia Sofer, who was 10 years old when her family fled the country.
The story centers on a gem dealer, who is imprisoned after the revolution, his wife, who will be played by Mexican actress Salma Hayek, their daughter, whose playmate’s father is the warden of the prison holding her dad, and the family’s housekeeper, played by Aghdashloo.
In the film, Aghdashloo’s son, who used to work for the gem dealer, is now enlisted in the Pasdaran (Revolutionary Guard)
The Hollywood Reporter said filming was expected to start in April.
Aghdashloo, who won an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, currently is seen in a recurring role on NBC’s “Grimm,” which will next be aired Friday, February 28, after the Winter Olympics are over.
