alcohol received 80 lashes in public last week in the town of Ramshir, Khuzestan province, the Iranian Students News Agency reported. Public lashings have only been rarely reported in recent years. They were resorted to quite frequently as a deterrent about a decade ago, but the strong public revulsion appeared to have convinced the government to reverse itself.
