Film director Mohsen Makh-malbaf’s (photo) documentary film “The Gardener” has been submitted for consideration among 150 others for the Oscar for Best Documentary. This is Makhmalbaf’s third go at an Oscar. “Gabbeh” was Iran’s submission for Best Foreign Language Film in 1997 and “Sex and Philosophy” was Tajikistan’s submission in the same category in 2005. The five nominees for next year’s Best Documentary Oscar will be announced in January.
