The body of a missing woman who fled Iran two years ago has been recovered, police in Windsor, Ontario, have announced.
In a post to social media March 21, the force announced that Shilan Shahbazian’s body had been located, but they did not say where it was found.
Investigators said they do not suspect foul play was involved in her death. They said nothing about the possibility of suicide. The cause of death was left unaddressed.
Shahbazian, 26, was last seen at around 7 p.m. January 4 in Windsor, which lies just across the river from Detroit.
She fled Iran and sought refuge in Canada about two years ago.
“Our thoughts are with Ms. Shahbazian’s family and loved ones, and we ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time,” police wrote.
Her family remains in Iran where they expressed frustration during the 2-1/2 months she was missing.
Kim Lam, the owner of Kim’s Nails and Spa, where Shahbazian had worked almost a year, said after her disappearance, “She’s beautiful and really talented. She’s a good person and was happy to be in Canada to build her own new life here.”
