Yet another honor killing of 14-yr-old

November 19, 2021

In the latest known “honor killing,” the husband of a 14-year-old bride has admitted that he murdered her.

The Lorestan province police chief said, “The murder was the result of family disputes,” which he did not detail.

The husband of 14-year-old Mobina Souri is a clergyman.

Under Islamic Law, in murder cases where the victim, usually female, has been accused of “disgracing the family’s honor,” exemptions and sentence reductions are generally granted to the killer.

The scope of the ways “disgracing family honor” can be defined is extremely broad; women and girls can be accused for being victims of rape, getting a divorce (even from an abusive husband), committing adultery, or being suspected of having sexual relations before marriage.

In the case of Mobin Souri, the police said other suspects were arrested before her husband confessed.  They have now been freed.
