First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref announced February 23 that the retirement age for full pension benefits for men will be raised to 62 and for women to 55 as part of sweeping pension reforms meant to make the pension fund able to pay out pensions for a longer time.
That raises the retirement age by five years for those with less than 15 years in the program. Those with more than 15 years in the program will face less than five additional working years. Those with more than 28 years in the program will be able to retire under the old rules. In the US, the retirement age for full benefits is now 67 for both men and women.
