Brig. Gen. Ahmad-Reza Radan (photo), the deputy commander of the national police, was quoted as saying this was the first such unit, that it was experimental and that there were no plans for any other units around the country. But the police announced the formation of just such an all-female unit in Tehran about five years ago. Was it subsequently disbanded? Has Radan just forgotten about it? We don’t know.
