The Women’s And Family Affairs Center said the purpose was to provide more employment opportunities for educated women who cannot now find jobs.
The head of the organization, Maryam Mojtahed-zadeh, did not suggest eliminating restrictions on the jobs women could hold in order to provide more job openings.
Neither did she suggest that this half time employment was intended to place women in the home for longer hours as house makers.
The Women’s and Family Affairs Center comes under the president’s office. It wasn’t known of President Ahmadi-nejad was aware of this proposal. He has routinely frowned on restrictions on what women can do and has been publicly critical of the dress code enforcement.
Mojtahed-zadeh said, “According to this plan, female employees will work 22 hours a week instead of 44 and their pay, insurance and pension plans would also be halved.
She said such jobs must carry enough of a workload to be divisible as a practical matter into two half-time jobs. She did not say if the women would be asked if they wished to work part time.
It wasn’t clear what further hoops the plan must go through before it becomes policy.
