A total of 40 men are currently in prison for failing to pay a required dowry, according to a group that tracks that issue. And those 40 men are about to get a surprising companion a woman. A 55-year-old Hamedan mother has just been ordered to jail for guaranteeing her son’s dowry and then not paying up when her daughter-in-law demanded the money. The mother has had financial problems since her husband died. The group that tracks dowry matters is asking for contributions to pay off the dowry and free the mother.
