Snow hit 11 provinces in late January, producing this scene (above) in the mountains. Below is the view of northern Tehran when the first snowfall of the season blanketed the higher parts of the capital. Temperatures in cities were at an abnormally wide range, stretching from minus-20 centigrade (minus-4 Fahrenheit) in Varzaqan in East Azerbaijan to plus-30 centigrade (86 Fahrenheit) at Rask and Zarabad in Sistan va Baluchestan.
