Asghar Eliaderani, 56, of Horry County was convicted of killing his 42-year-old wife, Farrah Abbasi, the mother of the couple’s two children, inside their Socastee area convenience store three years ago. For his crime, Eliaderani was given the maximum prison sentence of five years after he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
Eliaderani was initially put on trial for murder, but after a more than weeklong trial in March 2010, jurors deliberated 14 hours before convicting him of the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Brad Richardson, a 15th Circuit assistant solicitor who prosecuted the case, announced that the parole board had rejected the early release request March 9. Eliaderani is expected to remain in jail until September 2012.
Abbasi, who was a local pharmacist at the time, was in a coma for two days before she died.
On the day of the killing, police found Eliaderani leaving the store covered in blood. Officers followed a trail of blood behind the store counter and found Abbasi lying on her back. Prosecutors said Eliaderani killed his wife when she accompanied him to their convenience store to get documents so she could take their children to Iran that summer to visit family.
Before Eliaderani was sentenced, his then 17-year-old daughter, Tina Abbasi, testified against her father and gave details of domestic violence at the hands of her father. Eliaderani’s then 13-year-old son, Justin Abbasi, told Circuit Court Judge Steven John that his father deserved a harsher sentence, saying that he lived too long in terror of his father. “My childhood is gone because of that man,” Justin said. “I saw what he did to my mom, and I know what he can do.”
