Website launched to promote Occupy protests

to provide “true” news about the protests and calling on the UN to investigate human rights abuses during US police crackdowns.

Majlis Deputy Zohreh Elahian, who chairs the Majlis Human Rights Committee, a body mainly concerned with rights issues outside Iran, called on the United Nations to prevent the US from putting down the Occupy protests.

She said the era of American claims about human rights is over, and added, “The scenes of suppression of US protesters are upsetting and necessitate pursuing these human rights violations.”

The Occupy Wall Street protests against economic inequality started six weeks ago in New York and have since spread to dozens of US cities and about 80 countries worldwide, including Italy, the UK and China.

The irony is that while the Islamic Republic likes to claim its revolution has inspired protests and uprisings around the world, it is actually the New York Occupy protests that have clearly inspired copies in the last month all around the world.

Tehran Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati warned Washington to stop “suppressing” the Occupy protesters.

He said that 99 percent of the American public is standing against a tiny ruling minority, and “you are advised not to suppress 99 percent of your population just because of the interests of the remaining 1 percent.”

The former Iranian ambassador to Mexico went one step further, saying the 1 percent are rich Zionists and the 99 percent will turn into an anti-Zionist movement and flourish.

Hassan Qadiri-Abyaneh didn’t stop there, however, and predicted that the anti-Zionist movement will eventually turn into a movement of people embracing Islam.

“This [protest] movement in the US can be considered a movement toward embracing Islam,” he was quoted as saying by the government-funded PressTV.

He also said several stadiums in the US have been prepared for possible use as detention centers for protesters.

Moving beyond the usual rhetoric and into cyber information warfare, the commander of the Basij, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi, announced the launch of a website in Farsi and English that offers news about the Occupy Wall Street movement.

“This news website can have an effective role in providing more information to the people around the world, particularly Western individuals who seek the truth while being surrounded by the heavy load of propaganda issued by the media cartels associated with global Zionism,” he said.

The “Wall Street Fall” website is located at www.wsfall.com.

The state news agency reported that Major General Hassan Firuzabadi, the highest ranking officer of Iran’s Armed Forces, said US officials are only keen on hearing voices of protests from Iran, but are otherwise deaf to the voices of the American people although they are expressed within earshot.

“The US state has no option but to remove the influence of super-capitalism and to listen to what the suppressed American people say. As God has promised, they [suppressed Americans] will be victorious.”
