Feeding false reports to known spies is a standard practice around the world. Intelligence agencies also know that a significant amount of material they receive is false. Davani could not know whether the false information feed to MI6 actually fooled the British or was recognized for what it was. But announcing that Iran had fed Britain false data was not a very professional move, to say the least.
